What is community you may well ask?The word community is derived from old french communite`which is derived from latin communitas [cum”with/together”and munus”gift”].Traditionally a community has been defined as a group of interacting people living in a common location.The word is often used to refer to a group that is organised around common values and is attributed with social cohesion with a shared geographical location,generally in social units larger than a household.
I was brought up in a small farming community in rural New Zealand.I remember as a child many interactions within that community.As I got older and pursued my career I joined a community of health professionals,this community did not share the intimacy of my childhood community but it served another purpose,that of professional support and mentorship.
Then many years later after my years of exploring the globe I was ready to settle somewhere and build a home and family.I found a small town in a beautiful part of the world,bought a block of land and started attracting a community of likeminded people with similar interests to live close to me.
More recently I have become involved with a totally different community,that of a global nature.I am a part of a global community of Network marketers.The amazing thing with this community is that although they are far spread there is an element of intimacy as the community makes a huge effort to be consciously be involved.
The benefits of community are many,some that come to mind are;
>Events are held to bring community together,celebrating the community.
>We do not have to reinvent the wheel-shared resources and knowledge.
>The community is there for support in the highs and the lows.
>Share expertise.
>Fostering new friendships.
>Problem solving.
>Greater potential with a team than an individual.
So I feel that being part of a community can only be beneficialAlso one always has an affinity with past communities and this just adds to the global networking that I am now enjoying so much.
